History

70 years of trust
and appreciation

The roots of our law firm date back to 1949, when Carl Maurer founded the practice. Shortly thereafter, Gerhard Hübscher joined, significantly shaping its development. Following the hiring of three employees, the firm moved to larger premises on Linzer Spittelwiese. In the charming setting of an old building with connecting rooms, a familial working atmosphere flourished, characterized by trust and mutual respect among colleagues and clients. The focus was always on achieving outstanding results and building long-term, reliable relationships.

In the late 1960s, Gerhard Hübscher's sons, Heiner and Helmut, joined the firm as patent attorney trainees. Over the years, Helmut Hübscher took on a pivotal role beyond the firm, serving as a board member of the Austrian Patent Attorney Association for more than 30 years.

Since 2010, Gerd Hübscher has led the firm in its third generation. While the location and challenges have evolved due to dynamic legal developments, the spirit of the firm – rooted in trust, professionalism, and a clear focus on client needs – has remained steadfast.

In the years that followed, the firm expanded its team with the addition of experienced patent attorney Winfried Hellmich and trainees Bernhard Kadner, Fabian Haiböck, and Alexander Hornung. In 2019, a major milestone was reached with the transformation of the firm into Hübscher & Partner Patent Attorneys GmbH.

In 2021, Bernhard Kadner was admitted as a qualified representative before the European Patent Office (EPO). The following year, Fabian Haiböck and Alexander Hornung were also registered as EPO representatives. In 2023, Gerd Hübscher and Winfried Hellmich were added to the list of qualified representatives before the Unified Patent Court (UPC). During the same year, Alexander Hornung left the firm to take on a new role as an examiner at the EPO. Laurin Pollesböck joined as a new patent attorney trainee, as did Verena Fosodeder, who was subsequently admitted as an EPO representative in 2024.

That same year, both Bernhard Kadner and Fabian Haiböck passed the Austrian Patent Attorney Examination, becoming fully qualified patent attorneys. Additionally, Andreas Habersack joined the team as a new patent attorney trainee.

From its founding in 1949 through its transition to subsequent generations and ongoing growth and specialization, Hübscher & Partner has consistently combined tradition with progress. With a blend of experience, expertise, and a forward-looking mindset, the firm continues to be a trusted partner for its clients.
